Pastor Bud Locke

Pastor Bud moved to Stockton in August 2010. He was attracted to the many ministry potential that Stockton provides – there are endless opportunities to embody the mission of Christ in the city – and was drawn to Stockton’s proximity to the San Francisco Bay Area, Sacramento and the California Sierra Nevadas. As Senior Pastor, Bud leads Stockton Covenant’s efforts in going deeper in Christ and growing roots in the surrounding neighborhoods. Bud also serves with the Stockton Police Department as the School Resource Chaplain at Madison Elementary School.

The Lockes moved to Stockton from Medellín, Colombia where they served with the Covenant World Mission. They were commissioned as short-term missionaries to assist churches and schools throughout the South American country. They worked with Covenant’s mission in Colombia and the Colombian Covenant Church. Previously, Bud served as the Sacramento City Schools area director for Youth for Christ and on staff at various churches. In 1999, after graduating from seminary, Bud joined the Covenant to plant a new congregation “in the city for the city”. Through his preaching, teaching and outreach efforts, Bud led River Life Covenant Church’s efforts of planting christian communities in the neighborhoods of greater downtown Sacramento.

Pastor Bud is married to Kara, a credentialed elementary teacher and administrator in the State of California. She currently teaches at Madison Elementary School, in the Stockton Unified School District, just a few blocks from the church campus. Previously Kara taught in the Sacramento City Unified School District for almost 20 years. Before teaching in Sacramento, Kara taught in the Galt, Livermore and Santa Barbara school districts.

Both Bud and Kara grew up in the Bay Area of Northern California and graduated from Westmont College in Santa Barbara, CA. Bud received his Masters of Divinity from Western Seminary.
